About NWID

Nancy Werneken Interior Design is a full-service interior design firm established in 2001 based in Medfield, MA.

Nancy's Background
Nancy has an art background that began in her childhood and flourished through college where she earned a BFA from Central Michigan University in 1976.  During college, she interned summers as an Art Director's Apprentice at Ross Roy Advertising, Inc. in Detroit, MI.  Following graduation, Nancy became an Art Director with Ross Roy Advertising.  After several years in that capacity, she decided to try her hand at the client end of the ad business, and moved into the position of Account Executive.  She learned the business of advertising and the value of client service through this position.  Following 8 years with Ross Roy Advertising, Nancy got married and started a family leaving the agency business behind, but never forgetting the valuable knowledge that she gained through that experience.  While her three children were young, Nancy sold real estate in her home town of Grosse Pointe, MI.  Through that experience she learned the importance of carefully serving a more emotional client - the homeowner.  And, her focus on the interiors as well as the curb appeal of her listings led to a niche for her.  She had a knack for prepping (not merely staging) a home for quick sale.  Her recommendations to sellers proved themselves over and over.  In fact, she and her husband sold two of their three homes while living in Grosse Pointe in one day with multiple offers!  The third sold in two weeks (it was a difficult market).

When her husband, Allen was offered a job opportunity in San Francisco, the family moved to Marin County in 1989.  With one in school and two in daycare, Nancy started a Yellow Pages Advertising business of her own.  She consulted with advertisers on cost-effective Yellow Pages Advertising.  Again, she put her client service and business knowledge to work and was able to be there for the family, while designing, presenting and selling to clients from every type of business you can imagine.  The business required driving to all of these clients, so Nancy was able to experience virtually all of the Bay Area, from San Francisco north through Santa Rosa County, the Wine Country, Point Reyes, all of Marin County, Bodega Bay, and more!  Breathtaking country!  After two years and an earthquake, Allen was coerced back to Grosse Pointe by another job opportunity.  We were glad to go home (as beautiful as California was, our roots were in Michigan).  Nancy continued to juggle kids' activities with her Yellow Pages consulting business, and decorated the family's Grosse Pointe home.

In 1995, yet another job opportunity presented itself and Allen and Nancy made the decision to move the family to Boston.  We purchased a home in Medfield largely due to the reputation of the schools.  Nancy continued with her Yellow Pages business and helped the kids adjust to their new home, which she began improving immediately!  Nancy grew restless with the consulting business and feeling the need for more of a creative outlet, decided to enroll in the Rhode Island School of Design, Interior Design Cerificate Program.  Nancy's good friend and fellow decorator, Jamie Parsons (also of Medfield) enrolled at the same time.  And the rest (as they say) is history.  In 2001, Nancy phased the consulting business out and the design business in.  She got her first client and helped re-design a kitchen.  She still services that client.  In 2003, Nancy landed the Media Room at the Tara Drive Showhouse in Norwell, MA.  With the exposure she received and a growing client base, Nancy opened the NWID Showroom in March of 2004.  Jamie Parsons joined as an Associate Designer at that time.  Jamie is still Associate Designer at NWID.

NWID Today
Recently, we have made some positive changes.  After analyzing the direction of our company and the real needs of our clients, I came to the conclusion that we are a full-service design firm and our expertise, ideas and recommendations are what our clients need and want.  So, we moved the entire fabric, wallpaper and furnishings catalogs into Nancy’s home (also in Medfield).  Everything has remained the same, except the address and the new focus on personal, private service.

There is one more change at NWID: a new Design Associate has come on board.  Celeste Kramer (also of Medfield and RISD) has joined Jamie and Nancy.  NWID is growing, adapting and eager to help turn dreams into reality.
